Product protection starts with the right questions.

Build a barrier, distribution, and storage brief without guessing shelf life.

01

Identify what you want to preserve

List the characteristics your customers value: aroma, crispness, colour, texture, or ease of use. Add the changes you want to avoid. This makes the barrier discussion more concrete than simply asking for the thickest material.

02

Ask for relevant data

If OTR or WVTR figures are used, ask for units and test conditions. Film-layer data is only one part of evaluating a finished pack. Material structure, construction, features, and seals need to be considered together.

03

Describe the product’s journey

Map the journey from filling through storage and delivery to the customer. Mark known special conditions and information still to be confirmed. For empty packaging, ask for storage and handling guidance appropriate to the material and supply form in your order.

  • Planned storage location and conditions.
  • Delivery arrangement and secondary-packaging needs.
  • How the product is used after opening.
04

Treat shelf life as a target to validate

State shelf life as a target and share any product-evaluation basis you already have. Do not infer a shelf-life figure from a material name, a foil appearance, or one feature. The result requires evaluation of the product, process, distribution conditions, and packaging used.
